Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 11, 2026

At Bytes of Us, we believe privacy should feel like our guides: calm, clear, and genuinely helpful. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Website: Bytes of Us ("we", "us", "our")

Controller: Bytes of Us

Address: City of Antwerp, Belgium

Contact:hi@bytesofus.com

What this policy covers

This policy applies when you:

  • visit bytesofus.com,
  • subscribe to our newsletter,
  • interact with our pages (for example, clicking links, using forms, or leaving comments if enabled).

Information we collect

1) Information you provide

Depending on what you do on the site, you may provide:

  • Email address (when you subscribe)
  • Name (optional, if you enter it)
  • Message content (if you contact us)
  • Comment content (if comments are enabled)

2) Information collected automatically (website analytics + logs)

When you browse, we may automatically collect:

  • device and browser information,
  • approximate location (city/region-level, based on IP),
  • pages viewed, time on page, clicks, and referring pages.

We collect this mainly through Google Analytics (see below) and standard server logs used for security and performance.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • run and improve the website (performance, navigation, content),
  • understand what's helpful (which guides people read and save),
  • send newsletters if you subscribe (and only if you opt in),
  • respond to messages you send us,
  • protect the site (fraud prevention, security, debugging).

We do not sell your personal information.

Google Analytics (the only analytics tool we use right now)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use Bytes of Us (for example: which posts are most helpful, what gets saved, what readers search for). Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to distinguish users and sessions (for example cookies like "_ga").

Where required by law, we will only run analytics cookies after you have given consent.

Your choices for Google Analytics

You can:

  • use our Cookie Settings (if available on your device/region),
  • block cookies via your browser settings,
  • install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on,
  • or use privacy-focused browser settings/extensions.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use:

  • Strictly necessary cookies (required for the website to function)
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) to measure performance and improve content

We do not knowingly use advertising/remarketing cookies at this time. If that changes, we'll update this policy and our cookie controls.

Affiliate links and recommendations

Some posts include affiliate links. If you click and purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We add these links to fund the work (and we aim to recommend things we genuinely believe fit the "calm, useful, storybook" standard).

Affiliate tracking typically works through link parameters and cookies set by the retailer/affiliate network after you click. Those third-party sites control their own cookies and privacy practices.

Email newsletters

If you subscribe, we'll send you emails such as:

  • new posts and guides,
  • creator freebies/updates,
  • occasional discounts or "trusted picks" for parents.

You can unsubscribe anytime using the link in any email.

Who we share information with

We share information only when needed to run Bytes of Us, for example with:

  • Analytics provider: Google Analytics
  • Email delivery / newsletter provider: [NAME IF YOU WANT / OR "a trusted email service provider"]
  • Hosting, security, and website infrastructure providers: (only as needed)

We may also share information if required by law or to protect our rights (for example: responding to lawful requests).

International data transfers

Some service providers (like Google) may process data outside your country, including in the United States. When required, we rely on appropriate legal mechanisms for cross-border transfers (for example contractual protections provided by the vendor).

Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed:

  • Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe (and for a reasonable time after for recordkeeping)
  • Analytics data: according to our Google Analytics retention settings
  • Messages: as long as needed to respond and keep basic records

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • request access to your data,
  • correct inaccurate data,
  • request deletion,
  • object to or restrict processing,
  • withdraw consent (for example, newsletter or analytics cookies where applicable),
  • request data portability.

To exercise these rights, contact us at hi@bytesofus.com.

Children's privacy

Bytes of Us is written for adults (parents and creators). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no website can guarantee 100% security.

Third-party links

Our site links to third-party websites (for example: brands, shops, tools, printers). We're not responsible for their content, policies, or practices. Please review their privacy policies before providing personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect improvements to the site or legal requirements. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top.
